What is Babysalmesang?

Babysalmesang (baby hymn singing) is a much-loved musical activity for babies and new parents in Denmark, with weekly classes hosted by churches across the country. It offers a calm, joyful space where you and your baby can:

• Enjoy music, movement and rhythm together
• Share a playful and stimulating experience
• Learn hymns and children’s songs in a beautiful church setting
• Meet other local parents and babies

Babysalmesang in English is taught entirely in English and features a mix of seasonal hymns and traditional children’s songs. You don’t need to be a confident singer – your voice is your baby’s favourite! Classes include gentle movements, simple actions and small instruments to support rhythmic awareness and shared musical joy.

After each session, there’s time for tea, coffee and conversation.

No prior experience is needed, and everything in the class is suitable for babies up to 12 months old.

About the teacher

Babysalmesang in English is led by Sarah Greenhow (formerly Maxted), who has taught the classes since 2021. Sarah is a British singer trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, and an experienced church musician and music educator. She has previously taught baby and toddler classes at The Little London Music School and worked with the music team at St Martin-in-the-Fields in London.
